They are used by business to protect their brands .
You can register a Trademarks across all countries .
A trademark can be applied to a logo and name .
A Trade mark has to be renewed every 10 years .
Copyright
It exists in photos ,documents and websites .
A copy right is free .
Your copyright can last 70 years after your death .
If you pay someone to do something then they own the copyright ,but if in the contract it says other wise then they don't own it.
Design rights
If people buy things because of the way it looks then you have to think about design rights .
Registered design rights arnt expensive and they cover you in the uk and abroad .
Patents
If you invent a new product you should think about a patent
A patent lasts for about 20 years
It is very difficult and expensive to get a patent .
Data protection act
All business working in the uk have to follow 8 principles
Every person will have 4000 pieces of information stored every week
The DPA states that this information must be stored safely
It requires the customers consent
Only kept for the reason it should be kept for .
Should be kept accurate
Should be kept up to dateShould be kept as long as its needed
Should always be available to the customers
